Charles Goodson

Charles was born September 14, 1938 in Fleming, Kentucky to Charles E. and Bethel Honeycutt Goodson, and grew up on Rome Road in Morgan County. He graduated from Sunbright High School. Charles was Textile Graphist at Kellwood Corporation in Sunbright and farmer. He also owned Acme Silver Company, and Goodson's Grocery in Lancing. In later years he raised cattle and gardened for everyone in his family.

Charles married Myrtle Poe in 1960, and raised four children: Peggy Rochelle (John); Charlie (Sheila), Joe, and David (Jeri), who survive them. They also have 3 grandchildren, Allison Goulder (Jeff), Alex Goodson, and K.W. Goodson (Brittany), and one great grandchild, Marcus Goodson.

Charles, who we all called Papa, loved raising cattle, hay, gardening, and New York Yankees baseball. After Myrtle passed in 2021, he took up painting, and did the most amazing adult paint-by-number paintings of trains, farm scenes, and The Last Supper. His world opened up when he discovered YouTube, where he would travel all over the world riding trains. He was actively involved in the Morgan County Cattlemen's Association, and most of all, he loved Potter's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. His faith journey came later in life, when he was baptized in his 60s, and later became a deacon at Potter's Chapel. He loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met.

We will miss him as a father, grandfather, and friend, but heaven received a magnificent servant.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 26, 2026 at Schubert Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bro. Tyler Trout and Bro. Robert Freels officiating. Graveside services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Poe Family Cemetery in Deer Lodge.
