Colleen Melton

Velma Colleen Melton, age 91 of Lancing, passed away July 6, 2026, at her home. She was born October 16, 1934, to the late Theodore and Ruby Potter Byrge.

Colleen was a lifelong member at Shady Grove Baptist Church where she served as the Sunday school clerk for 50+ years. She enjoyed reading and loved taking care of her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Lois Ann Hall; granddaughter Barbara Ann Jennings; sister Maxine Collines and brother Alvin Byrge.

She leaves behind her husband of 75 years Ola Melton; children Cathy Sue (Larry) Burress, Bruce Timothy (JoAnn) Melton; grandchildren Christina, Cindy, Charles, Allen, Robby, Bobby, Heather, Andy, Chance, and Buck, whom she loved dearly. A host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 10, 2026 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Lancing from 11:00-12:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Church Cemetery.
