Obituary for Dorothy Ann Foster Trotman Hoffman
Dorothy Ann Foster Trotman Hoffman, lovingly known by many as “Dot”, passed away
peacefully on May 19, 2025, in Oakdale, Tennessee, at the age of 77.
Dot was born on August 3, 1947, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and spent most of her life in
Charlotte, North Carolina, where she built a life rooted in faith, service, and love for others.
Dot was a devoted member of the recovery community in Charlotte. She faithfully served
in prison ministry, bringing Celebrate Recovery into women’s prisons and extending
compassion and hope to countless lives. She also supported the Charlotte Rescue Mission
generously and was a dedicated member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Professionally, Dot was an Enrolled Agent and the proud owner of DFH Accounting
Services, where she worked tirelessly on behalf of many businesses and individuals across
the Charlotte area. She was widely respected for her integrity, dedication, and the personal
care she showed each person she served.
More than anything, Dot will be remembered as a woman of unwavering faith—a follower
of Christ who lived out her calling every day. She was loyal to her relationships, steadfast in
her word, and always made time to be of service to others. She stood firm in faith, was
strong in spirit, and did everything in love.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, James Foster, Sr. and Ann Lee Bryant Foster,
and her brother Phillip “Buck” Foster. She is survived by her son Michael Brion Trotman
(52); her beloved grandchildren Madison Bailey Trotman Welsh (29), Shelby Ann Trotman-
Ryberg Pensak (23), Tyler Daniel Trotman-Powell (16), and Sarah Kay Trotman-Powell (14);
her brothers Joseph Foster and James D. Foster, Jr.; her devoted caregiver Tonda Ferguson;
and many close friends, clients, and members of the faith community who were touched by
her life.
Dot leaves behind much fruit of the Spirit—a legacy of faith, hope, love and service that
will continue to inspire all who knew her. It is safe to say she has heard the words from
Matthew 25: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
