Grace Davis Schirmer

Grace Davis Schirmer, age 86, passed away Saturday August 2, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born on July 8, 1939 in Lancing Tennessee to Arthur and Gerta (Hickman) Davis. She was a 1958 graduate of Central High School, Wartburg TN. She married Carl Schirmer on October 29, 1958 and they raised two daughters in New Jersey before returning to TN in 1991. Grace was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Knoxville, TN and she served for many years in the Altar Guild. She was a hospital volunteer at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank NJ and at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville TN. She was a 41 year breast cancer survivor. Grace liked to travel with family and visited 50 states and many countries. Grace loved plants, flowers and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mother in law, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, great great aunt, great great great aunt, cousin and friend. A loved person has many names and some of hers included: "Gracie", "Mama Grace", and "Maa". Grace will be remembered for her sweet nature, friendly smile, positive outlook, and dedication to family and church.

Grace is survived by her daughter Lori Schirmer, son in law David Couch, grandchildren Carl and Nova Schirmer-Couch. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Schirmer in 2009 and her daughter Carla Schirmer in 2018.

The family will receive friends on Saturday August 9, 2025 at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg from 1-2 pm. Funeral services will follow at 2pm. Internment will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery in Lancing, TN.

Memorial service will be 7pm Friday August 22, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church Knoxville, TN.
