Julia Ellen Hunter, age 59, of Brewstertown, TN was freed from her Earthly bonds on April 6th, 2024.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents Bill & Daisy (Brewster) Hunter, her older brothers Glen Hunter & Jack (Randy) Hunter, and special cousins Trella Myers & Katrina Duckworth.
She is survived by her soulmate, Jeff Gray of LaFallette, TN, her only daughter Hope Hunter & fiancé Jacob McPartlin of Brestertown, TN, grandchild (and light of her life) Charity Richards, brother Bill Hunter & wife, Kim of Cookville, TN, niece Faith Hassler & husband John of Crossville, TN, nephews Billy Hunter of Chattanooga, TN & Ryan Hunter of Cookeville, TN, one great-niece Evie Hassler of Crossville, TN. Julia also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who although may not have been close in distance, where always close in her heart.
Julia was born on February 4th, 1965 at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She was the youngest and only daughter of 4 children. Growing up with their father serving as a Master Sargent in the United States Air Force, Julia & her brothers traveled and lived in different states across America, as well as a few countries. When Julia was a teenager, they planted roots in Brewstertown, TN; the town she always considered home. After graduating from Sunbright High School in 1983, Julia spent some time deciding what she wanted to do with her life. In the mid 1980’s, she graduated from the Tennessee School of Beauty. Julia opened her own salon in Sunbright where she quickly built an extensive list of loyal clients.
In 1987, she gave birth to her only child, Hope. After her daughter’s birth, she worked to receive a Nursing Assistant Certification and attended Tennessee College of Applied Technology for a nursing degree. Although after discovering that nursing wasn’t a career of passion, she became a permanent fixture around the town of Sunbright. Throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s, you could find her cutting hair in her home salon, running in circles around Tiger Mart where she eventually became manager, running a daycare out of her home with cousin & best friend Trella, driving a school bus, or even sewing uniforms and organizing instruments as the Sunbright Band Flag Corp. sponsor.
In 2004, Julia moved to LaFollette to settle down and reconnect with the love of her life, Jeff. However, in 2008, she returned to Brewstertown to become the primary caregiver of her family while also helping to raise her grandchild, Charity, who was born just the year prior in 2007. After losing her brother Glen & her parents, Julia continued to live in the family home until her death.
In the words of her cousin, Corey Brewster, “Julia’s smile lit up every room, greeting everyone with warmth that felt like a hug from the heart. Her unwavering commitment to family, her generosity even in times of her own need, and boundless kindness are the legacies she leaves behind.”
