With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathy Mae Stohrer, age 66, of Knoxville, Tennessee. Kathy peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Kathy dedicated 36 remarkable years of her life to the noble profession of nursing, answering a calling that defined her compassionate spirit. She began her distinguished career at Baptist Hospital, where she served with dedication in the Intensive Care Unit. Her journey then led her to UT Medical Center, where she poured her heart into her work as an HDU nurse for 29 faithful years before her well-deserved retirement. Through her gentle touch and unwavering commitment, Kathy brought comfort and healing to countless patients and families, leaving an indelible mark on all whose lives she touched.
Kathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Don Stohrer; father, Raymond Hamby; mother, Dossy Hamby; brother, Johnny Hamby; great-grandson, Caleb Thomas.
Kathy's greatest joy was her family, and she leaves behind a loving legacy to treasure her memory. Her devoted daughters, Rebecca (David) Stohrer; Donna Stohrer; brothers, Dennis Hamby, Joe Hamby, Randy Hamby, and Raymond Hamby; grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Dylan Smith, Caleb Newberry, and Jerrod Newberry; great-granddaughters, Lakyn, Emie, and Falyn, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends who were blessed to know her warm and generous spirit.
Family and friends will gather to honor Kathy's beautiful memory at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920, for a receiving of friends on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Kathy's kindness, dedication, and unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Though she has left this earthly life, her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and the family she loved so dearly.
