Shirley June Woods

Shirley June Woods passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 21, 2026. She was born April 7, 1947. She was a graduate of Wartburg Central High School, Class of 1965. She was a Special Education teacher at Petros Joyner Elementary School for many years where she taught with kindness, love and compassion, making sure all of her students felt understood. She was a loving grandmother to all 6 of her grandkids and her great-granddaughter, all of whom she loved spending time with.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Veina “Mae” McCoy; infant brother, George William McCoy; and infant sister, “Baby Girl” McCoy.

She is survived by her husband, Noah “Junior” Woods; sister, Veina Marlow; brother, Richard McCoy; sons, Terry (Wilma) Woods and Jason (Lorie Rainey) Woods; grandchildren: Tamira Woods, Jailynn Woods, Teegan Woods, Dawson White, Aaron White, and Grayson Woods; great-granddaughter, Autumn Woods; nephew, Mike (Tina) McCoy and great-nephew, Joe McCoy; niece, Haley (Jesse) Laymance and great-niece and nephew, Olivia and Jaxson Laymance.

The family will receive friends Monday March 23 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral to follow at 1:00 pm, Bro. Jason Lowe officiating. The graveside service will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in Joyner.
