Callie Sue Patterson Bunch, age 80, left for her Heavenly home on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Sue, no doubt was listening to the murmurs of sweet words and memories from her family before being ushered out from the mortal chains that bound her to this earth.
Sue was born on Ligas Fork, now Devonia, Tennessee, to Mazie Carroll Patterson on June 7, 1945, making her the youngest of five children to a widowed and single mother. After a tragedy that took Sue’s young mother’s life, her guardianship fell to her maternal Aunt Mathia Carroll Lively and husband Ed, until her 1962 Lake City High School Graduation.
Sue met Robert Lee Bunch in the mid 1960’s in Ohio where they started a life-long love and began their family together. They spent more than 45 years building a family legacy, until his death on August 3, 2017.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother Mazie Carroll Patterson, father Calvin Coolidge Patterson and stepmother Elzia Mae Seiber Patterson, guardians Ed and Mathia Lively. Her sisters Anne Patterson Ruiz and June Patterson Seiber; along with brothers Calvin Kent Patterson, Hurstle Patterson, and Arvil Patterson. She would never fail to mention her siblings by guardianship that she was raised with and always considered dear loved ones that have preceded her in death – Gladys Lively and husband John Wright; Jean Lively and husband Teddy Wright; and A.Y. Lively and wife Sally Seiber Lively.
She was also preceded in death by her son Jerry Lynn Lively; Grandchildren – Joshua and Richard Alan Bunch, and Joey M. Wright; and Great-Grandson – Caydon Scott Huseman.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws Ramsey Bunch Sr., and Lectie Daugherty Bunch; Siblings-in-law: Mary Opal Bunch Price; Lindsay “Buddy” Thomas Bunch and wife Lola; Fisher Bunch; Lorenza Bunch and wife Alva; Annie Mae Bunch Seiber Carroll and husband Joe; Leon Bunch and wife Marie; Tillman Bunch; Elsie Marie Bunch Armes Liles and husband Virgil; Dillard Bunch and wife Beatrice “Bea;” Ramsey Bunch Jr.; Velma Bunch Paxton and husband Lloyd; Castle Lee Bunch; and Sidney Lee Bunch and wife Dorothy.
Sue is survived by her stepsons Lester Bunch and partner Paula, and Richard Bunch and wife Doranne; her daughters Brenda Sue Bunch and Wanda Lee Bunch; and her sons Joe Wright and wife Gail, and Robert “Robby” Edward Bunch and wife Bridgett.
She leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren that she was so very proud of and watched play their sport at every opportunity. She and Robert cheered them on during football, baseball, and basketball seasons. Susie-Q loved the Sunbright Tigers! She is survived by David Bunch and wife Whitney, Hunter Bunch, Philip Bunch and wife Tasha, Skyler Bunch and wife Chelsea, Tyler Bunch and wife Whitney, Kelsea Stewart Huseman and husband Brandon, Michelle Bunch Staehling, Anthony Stewart and wife Raven, Kristin Stewart-Combass and husband Garrett, Zachary Stewart and wife Natasha, Jordan Vann, Kristie Young, and Aaron Young.
In addition, she leaves behind 22 great grandchildren. She was excited to know that she was getting to add three more to her growing family with the coming of Philip and Tasha’s baby boy and Caleigh and Kevin's baby boy in the first week of November, "He would have been her first great great grandchild". Then Zachary and Natasha adding their girl the first week of December.
Sue leaves behind brothers Terry Patterson, Ted Patterson, Taffie Patterson and wife Rose, and George Patterson; and sisters Jearl Lively Bunch and Jackie Patterson. She also leaves behind brother-in-law Victor Bunch and partner Jennifer Hall. She had a special relationship with her brother Oscar Patterson -- who will no doubt miss those daily calls.
Sue’s hobbies included Quilting and Crocheting and were shared by all who would take time to sit-a-while and let her talk about the patterns. We want to thank Nancy Jeffers for being a great friend and quilting buddy.
Her sister-in-law Freida Bunch will surely miss the almost daily talks. They were school buddies and then sisters-in-law who fished, camped, quilted, crocheted, and shared life until this week.
Sue truly leaves behind many special family members and friends. This is not goodbye; it is just a “see you later my friend.”
The family will receive friends Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg from 4-6 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Bro. Mike Hammonds and Bro.
