Wanda Self

Wanda Maxine Self, a beloved mother and homemaker of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 90. Born on November 3, 1934, in Wartburg, Tennessee, Wanda touched the lives of many through her warmth, creativity, and steadfast spirit.

Wanda graduated from Wartburg Central High School before continuing her education at Knoxville Business College. Her previous employment included a significant role as a switchboard operator at the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

As a devoted homemaker, Wanda was known for her exceptional crafting skills, a testament to her creative spirit and originality. Above all, she was a loving mother to her four sons: Gordon Self of Lexington, Indiana, Randall Self of Lexington, Indiana, Anthony Self of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Edward Self of Scottsburg, a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, who will cherish her memory and the values she instilled in them as they navigate their lives.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Amanda Heidle, her husband, Smith H. Self, her daughter, Dana Self, five brothers, Charles, Herbert, love, Eugene and Bob Ray and four sisters, Angelee Hall and Vadna Helton, Geneva Bullen, and Pansy Heidle.

Wanda was also a woman of faith, holding steadfast to her beliefs in the Baptist tradition. Her unwavering love for her family and friends, along with her gentle demeanor, left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know her.

Wanda's memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends, who find solace in knowing she lived a life full of love, creativity, and devotion. She will be deeply missed yet fondly remembered for the light she brought into the world.

Cremation was chosen as Wanda wished. She will be laid to rest at Walnut Ridge cemetery at a later date.
