Barbara Chapman, of Wartburg, TN

Barbara Vera Chapman passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on January 20, 2020. She was 84 years of age. Barbara was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she raised her family and modeled for them the love of God and of her neighbors, coordinating and preparing meals for grieving families and serving as a Sunday School teacher to toddlers for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Chapman; daughter, Natalie Aleta Chapman; and an infant son, Benjamin Walter Chapman; father, Benjamin Franklin Ruppe; mother, Cartie Davis Ruppe; siblings, Lorraine Luffman, O.V. McKinney, Reva Luffman, Romain Ruppe, and Martin Ruppe.

Barbara is survived by daughter Vera (Bill) Gormley;  grandsons Zandy (Katie) Knox, Andrew (Jennifer) Knox, and Jordan (Sarah) Spurling; great-grandchildren Logan Standridge, Elsie Knox, Steven Knox, and Baby Spurling (due to arrive in May 2020); sisters Virgil (Larry) Lee and Bonita Jones; and brothers Henry Ruppe, Billy (Faye) Ruppe, and Raymond (Trula) Ruppe. She will also be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews.

She  grew up in Morgan County during the Great Depression, one of eleven children. Growing up in a farming family instilled a work ethic and determination that would inspire her family in future generations. She shared love throughout many communities as she served as a caregiver in assisted living facilities and in patients’ homes.

Her hospitality, desire to see the best in everyone, and willingness to share the love of Christ will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Paul Frick officiating.  Interment will follow in the Liberty Church Cemetery in Wartburg.
