Greta Ryan Pennycuff, 86, of Wartburg died February 5th, 2021 after a brief illness. The eldest of four children of Herbert and Reba Siler Ryan, Greta was born January 15, 1935 in Anderson County but she was raised in McCreary County, KY and also in Morgan County. She graduated from Wartburg Central High School in 1953.
A long-time employee of Burlington Hosiery in Harriman, Greta retired from Red Kap Industries in Wartburg. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at Annadale Baptist Church and was lastly a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Wartburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Reba Siler Ryan; a sister, Iris Thompson; a brother Carnet Ryan; and two nieces, Teresa Lowe and Debra Thompson.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Tommy of Wartburg and by her son, Tim of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law Ray and Mary Ryan, of Oliver Springs; a sister-in-law Shirley Ryan of Wartburg, and several nieces and nephews including Kathy Bunch of Oak Ridge; Angela (Kenney) Osborne of Wartburg; Brenda (Jeff) Cate of Harriman; and Vernon Lowe of Wartburg.
The family will have a private graveside service at Wartburg Memorial Gardens. Greta’s nephew Josh Lowe will be officiating.
